What a long, long day this was! Karina started asking about preschool last week, as soon as she got over her little Christmas illness. She was so excited to go back today! I know she missed her little friends. While she was there, I went to Babies R Us and picked up a few things I still needed or wanted for Eleina, like this
Fisher Price sleeper/seat thing that the lady behind me in line told me I will just love and which i had wanted before anyway, and a new monitor. We still use Karina's so we needed another one. Also picked up a few odds and ends. Then I went over to the consignment shop and got Karina some new red pants because she apparently wants to wear red pants every day.
When I went to pick her up, I was running a bit late, which is not normal for me, but apparently since the baby has dropped a little over the holidays, it takes me a lot longer to get in and out of the car and stores than it did. Hm. Plus I'm slow walking because my leg is killing me. Eleina has been sitting on my left leg and nerves this entire time. First it was the sciatica-esque pain, now it's a tendon and my knee. Sheesh! Anyway, I arranged for my friend to be backup for me on Thursday in case I'm running a few minutes late from my doctor's appointment, and then made sure she was on my "it's okay for this person to pick up my kid" list. Karina had a lot to tell me about preschool, as usual. She didn't like how cold it was outside and how windy. Then in the car she pretty much refused to eat her lunch. I kept telling her she had a doctor's appointment and we weren't going home.
We had a coupon for her to use at Toys R Us because we signed up for the little birthday club they have. She chose a doll clothes set that will fit both her Cinderella toddler doll and another doll that was given to her by Bill's friend. We looked all around the store, and that was what she wanted. That was perfect.
Oh. On the way into the store, it was windy, really really windy. It is finally cold here, in the thirties today. So as we walked along the sidewalk slowly, because of me, I was holding her hand and she was holding her Lambkin. Suddenly, this gust came along and literally ripped Lambkin out of her hands! He tumbled a foot or two along the sidewalk as we both moved as quickly as a 9-months pregnant woman and a three year old can, and we caught him, no problem. But she was so traumatized! She burst into tears, and I had to pick her up to calm her down. I got her into the store and she settled down. I ended up pretending to have Lambkin tell me that he thought it was very funny how he flew in the air and that he was laughing about it. That actually seemed to really help her.
On the way back to the car with her doll clothes, she stumbled and fell on her knee. More crying. I knew she was hungry and tired but she wouldn't eat. Next we went in Target and got drinks (she just likes water, but I got one of their tiny sodas--I love that they have that small size so I don't feel too guilty about it). I walked through the baby section to make sure there wasn't anything else I needed, and then we got one of those mini boxes of goldfish crackers and left. She ate the whole box! I was afraid she'd be cranky at the doctor, but she wasn't. But she was tired, snuggling me on the couch in the waiting room.
This was her first "big kid" appointment, so she had to do some things we've never done before, like the urine specimen (she did awesome!), height, weight, and blood pressure (she did awesome) and getting her finger pricked (again, awesome--way better than her mom who hyperventilates at those things). She didn't even cry or blink or anything. She was so brave and I was so proud of her! Then we went in and saw her doctor, who I think is just fantastic and always talks to her, not just to me. He said she is doing great. She's exactly in the 50th percentile, bloodwork is good, everything is good. She is 30 pounds and 36 inches, exactly for both. We couldn't have planned that!
Then she had to get a flu shot. Ugh. She did cry for that, but mostly because her hair got stuck in the band aid. She got to pick out a little bracelet and got some princess stickers, too. I went on and on about how proud I was and how brave she was. In the car on the way home she fell asleep! So I brought everything in and then put her in our bed and she slept til almost 530. Long, long day. For both of us!
She told me in the car, "The wind keeps blowing my hair in my face. (dramatic pause) I'm tired of it."
As for baby Eleina, still no signs of imminent arrival, but even our pediatrician said it looked like it wouldn't be long now. I hope he's right. I'm tired and uncomfortable and ready to hold a baby.

I hope it will be soon for you! I will pray for you, it sounds uncomfortable.
I love how you told the story about Lambkin liking his windy adventure. That was so smart of you!
I don't handle needles well either. She's a trooper!
