Diaper Accessories

I am inspired by a post at the Knickernappies blog on diaper accessories.  It was really well done and lists one mom's diapering must-have accessories.  Mine is pretty similar, so here goes:

Wet bags: large and small.  2 Large size for the nursery.  Pail is optional.  I don't use a pail, I just put the diapers in the bag until wash day, when I haul the whole thing down to the washer and wash it with the diapers.  I have one being washed and one clean.  Several small ones for the diaper bag.  I have about 5 of them, and don't need that many, but it's good to have several so that when they're dirty or being washed, you still have one or more to put in the diaper bag.  My favorite wet bags are Monkeyfootdesigns  (or find them on Etsy here)and Natural Baby Company ones with drawstrings.  They smoosh down really small.

Diaper sprayer: I love mine.  It's a life saver, really.  After a horrific experience when we changed my daughter's formula, I am not ever giving this accessory up!  If it breaks, I am immediately buying a new one.  No matter what.  They are so easy to install, and they really make diaper mess cleanups easier.

Diaper safe cream:  I am now a complete Grandma El's convert.  We tried a couple other brands, but this one works like a charm for us.  Every cloth diapering mom needs a diaper safe cream for those times the baby might get a rash.  Karina has sensitive skin and is more prone to rashes than some babies might be.  Grandma El's clears them up quickly, and it's safe for the cloth diapers (Some creams will cause your diapers to repel.  Not a good thing.)

Flushable liners: Before we had the diaper sprayer, I used these all the time.  They were great, but they aren't any good if the mess is, um, really messy.  I'll just say this.  Sometimes, those liners just aren't going to do their job, through no fault of their own.  They are very helpful though when everything is working normally, if you catch my drift, and my husband loves them.  I don't use them anymore, though.  I use the Imse Vimse  ones because they can be washed and reused if they are only wet.  (That site's in some other language.  Find them at your favorite online retailer in English: Diaper Junction, Nicki's Diapers, and Baby Cotton Bottoms carry them.  There are also other brands out there, but check to be sure you can wash them.  Not all are washable, but most are flushable or disposable and biodegradable.)

As for the other things on the Knickernappies list, I either don't use them or need them at this time.  The sheet savers I had didn't work so we stopped using them.  I just had to find a good night diaper routine quick.  And, though I tried cloth wipes, I found I couldn't stick with them and went back to the disposable ones.  And of course we have a changing pad on our table.  I have several covers that I rotate using.  I actually got the changing table at a yardsale for $5--really--and the pad and 2 covers also at a yardsale, I think that was $5 too.  I just washed everything and voila.

I suggest that you also check out the list over at the Knickernappies site, because you might want to see what that mom does and what she likes to use.  Maybe there will be things on her list that speak to you, even though they might not have been things I use.  It's a really great list.

Hi there! Thanks for your kind words on my article at Knickernappies. I am glad to hear your raves about your diaper sprayer, I will be investing in one once we start solids. It's great to see what works for other moms!

Blueviolet, I do too! They're perfect for that.

Jennie, Thanks so much for your great post. You inspired me to write mine. I had to go back and reread mine because I got nervous thinking maybe I didn't say enough good things about yours, but I think it was okay. Moms all do things a little bit differently, so I think it is good to have different perspectives on same/similar products. Thanks for stopping by and reading this little old blog of mine.
