This week we had to return some library books that Karina and I checked out together. When we went in, she wanted "dodo" books. (That's "doggie for those of you who don't speak Karina) We pulled out all these books about dogs, with dogs in them, stories about dogs, and factual books about dogs. The entire hour we were there, all I heard was "Dodo! Dodo!"
Me: "Karina, do you want me to read this book to you?"
Karina: "Dodo! Dodo!"
So I'd read it to her, and halfway throught, it was "Dodo" again. Down we went to find the perfect "dodo" book. Finally we found two, one called "Chewy Louie" about a little puppy who eats everything to the point that they have to rebuild their house, and another one that I think is by DK or something similar; it's got some clear pages in it and it's just a fact book about dogs, but it's intended for little kids. She loves it.
We took them home on Tuesday and have been enjoying them. All week, Karina has been more obsessed with dogs than usual. It's like they've invaded her brain. The only thing they haven't pushed out yet is Sesame Street and Elmo.
We decided last week that in order to have a routine for her, she gets to watch Sesame Street on Monday and Thursday nights. So, we turned it on, and boy, that girl LOVES that show. At five to seven, I told her she was going to watch her special show--I don't even have to say the name of it--and she immediately and frantically grabbed two random toys (blocks) to hold while she watched it and scrambled up on to the couch.
Elation as it came on and the first sketch was about the letter I, which is the letter of the day, and a dog named Iggy who thinks the letter I is a bone. Later in the show is Elmo's World. This is the highlight of Karina's day. I wish you could see her face--I should take a picture next time. I'll try to remember. Anyway, Elmo is always thinking about something and that is the theme of his segment for the day. Today, guess what Elmo was thinking about? Yep, DOGS. I thought Karina was going to bust a gasket, she was so excited!
She watches Sesame Street without moving almost at all--it's like she's in a trance. When that Elmo segment came on with dogs, she just lit all up and actually said, "Dog".
She's been so obsessed with dogs this week that she's progressed from "dodo" to "dog" but it kind of sounds like "dots" or "dods" or something like that.
But she said, "Dog". Thank you, Elmo.

She's so cute sitting there in her jammies! We rarely get our of ours at this house, unless we're going somewhere. Don't you just love cuddly winter weather!
