More cabinets in my kitchen! **Updated

I have a nice house that I like.  It's not too big and not too small.  Our upstairs is fantastic, with five good-sized bedrooms, a master bath and walk-in closet, and a good amount of storage.  Our downstairs is nice, too, but kind of chopped up.  The house is from the 70s.  Our kitchen seemed perfectly big enough, but we soon realized there wasn't enough counter space.  Our friend Cali is a great handy person, and suggested putting some more cabinets in on one wall where we have our eat-in area.

I've been dreaming of making our kitchen more useful since we moved in 3 years ago.

Yesterday we went to the store and got two base cabinets and boy did we score a deal on them!  The wall is 67 inches long.  We needed a 30" and a 36" cabinet, which we found at the first store.  They are just stock cabinets and would have cost us $370.  Then we went to a different home improvement store and found two almost identical, same sizes we need but for $99 each!  Woo-hoo!  So today Cali and Bill are out getting them, plus the countertop (just laminate, but that's all I need) and stuff.  They are putting them in TODAY!!  I'm so excited because even though it means we might lose our eat-in area in the kitchen (the dining room adjoins so no big deal), we are going to have room for all the extra bulk food that is currently stored on the floor (nice, right?) because there is literally no room for it, plus I'll have countertop to store appliances that we don't use much so that will free up other areas for food prep.  It is going to be fantastic.  And I will post some pictures when it's all done.

Well.  When something seems too good to be true, it usually is.  Bill and Cali brought the cabinets home and it turned out the 36" one was a sink base, with no drawer.  When they took it back, they had no other 36" bases for that price, so he was going to get a 30" one.  The only one left was broken.  Sigh.  Well, we now have to wait until Tuesday to get it, still at the $99 price though.  Frustrating but expected.  Some good news is that Cali is going to move an outlet up the wall for us so we'll have an outlet at that part of the countertop area, and we may possibly redo the other countertops and the sink faucet.  Not only that, but if we redo the countertops, we'll replace the dishwasher with our practically brand-new one that is just sitting in our garage.  So some good things are still going to come of this, but it was frustrating today.

Plus Elena had a terrible day.  We'll be calling the doc tomorrow to see what we have to do next, which will be going in to see him first.  She still smells of bile when she spits up and still has crying spells.  She also seems constipated which is weird since she's on Nutramigen.  One step forward and two steps back, as they say.

This is pretty exciting even with the setback on the cabinets. The end result is going to be so great!

Poor little Elena. She's really having a rough go of these beginning months.
