Green Bottoms on Etsy

This is the diaper from Green Bottoms that I posted about a little while ago.  Remember, I liked it so much I bought it?  Well, I got it and washed it and put it on Karina today and let me tell you how great it is.  I put it on Karina sometime in the early afternoon, after she ate and got goo all over her pants.  I figured, if she's pantless, why not put her in the cutest looking diaper ever?  So I put her in it, and by 2pm, she was fading fast...as in getting really tired.  (She's had a few really busy days).  Well, I figured this would be a good test, so down she went for her nap.  She slept for 2 1/2 hours.  She did not leak at all!  I double checked the diaper and she had certainly used it, but there were no leaks!  Makes me so happy that I got it!  Makes me want more of them...  So I can say to you that I recommend these diapers and they worked for us.  I got a medium, which fits 15-30 pounds.  I think it might run a bit small, but there's still room for her to grow.

So there you have it folks.  Pretty easy!  I love these diapers, too.  If Karina wears them and takes a nap they do not leak, like another popular brand always does.  They're the only diaper I've ever used besides her covers and prefolds that I can depend on not to leak.  I loooooove them.

Footed leggings for kids...just what I was thinking!

Just the other day, after church, I was thinking that someone needs to invent baby leggings with feet.  They would be like thigh-high tights for kids.  Why?  Well for me, when I take Karina to church, she goes in the nursery.  I love it because it's one regular time of the week that we are separated, and she gets to play with other kids.  She loves it and I like the time away.  (Seriously, we're together 24/7)  I love to put her in pretty dresses for church, but I feel bad if the nursery staff have to change her diaper and she's in tights.  (If it's cold and she's in a dress, she needs tights, right?)  Tights are a royal pain in the wahooey.  If she's feeling squirmy, forget it.  But the leggings she actually helps me put on!  She thinks they're like pants, and we have no problem with those.  (Yes, let me brag a moment:  my one year old has been helping me dress her since she was about 3 months old.  She puts her arms in the sleeves, pulls them out to undress, and about a month or two ago started helping me put on her pants, even when standing.  Oh yeah, that's my girl!)  Anyway, I thought how great it would be to not do the leggings and socks, which just don't look as...dressy I guess you could say.  I thought, why not leggings with feet, so they would look like tights, but still not need to be removed to change diapers?  Well, I know nothing about knitting or making tights, so I looked on my new all time favorite place, Etsy, and do you know only ONE shop came up with actual footed leggings?  Yep.  Only one that I found.  It's called Jacquelynnies and her footy leggings ONLY COST $5.25!  And if you buy 5, you get free shipping.  I'm sorry, but this is a great deal.  A nameless name brand baby legging can cost $12!!!  That's just crazy to me.  Even with shipping costs, this is a deal.  She has patterned ones on her site today, and I emailed her through Etsy and asked about solids.  She has some.  If you need solids, email her through Etsy and she will let you know.  She was great.  Her name is Karen.

Another Adorable Kinders Giveaway!!!

Twinkletoes Diapers on Etsy

Twinkletoes Diapers on Etsy caught my eye a while back  I started following them on Facebook, and saw that they were having a sale...which would bring the price of the All in Two diapers on their site--which are already a great price--down to about $10!  I ordered three immediately.  I have used them on my daughter already and they are working great.  Now, I have to say I have not used the inserts yet because they need to be washed several times to reach their premium absorbency, but I have been using them like regular diaper covers.  No leaks so far.  They have snaps, which is okay, though I usually prefer touchtape.  One thing I liked about them when I got them is that they seem like they might fit a newborn pretty well.  I adjusted one to the smallest rise setting and waist setting, and it looks pretty small to me.  I am excited, because as I've mentioned, I am bound and determined to use cloth on the next baby from the start.  I have a small stash of infant prefold diapers already, from my sister-in-law, so I'm partway there.  I digress.  These Twinkletoes diapers are fantastic.  I am going to try the inserts tomorrow as I've finally washed them several times, so I will update this post when I do that.  I am so impressed with the construction of the diapers, too.  There are three snaps inside the cover that hold the insert in place, but as I said, you can easily use it as a diaper cover with prefolds or whatever.  The inserts themselves are--and I know this might sound weird--a really nice shape and I like the feel of them, too.

So in summary, Twinkletoes diapers are great.  I recommend them!

If you have heard about baby carriers, chances are you have heard of the Moby Wrap.  I looked at them, but didn't really understand how they worked, and opted for a less-expensive sling.  It was also available locally, and I got 2 as gifts when Karina was born.  I liked them, they worked for me, and I was always careful.  Then I got a Baby K'Tan from babyhalfoff.com one day, and I like that one even more.  It works great.  But I've still been eyeing those Mobys.  Now here's a chance to win one!

Coupon Organizers

Now that Karina's getting older, and my diaper stash is getting pretty overfull (ha ha!  Always room for more), I realize that my blog will be changing a little to grow with her, and me.  You have probably noticed that not everything I write on here is about diapers anyway. 

Here are two coupon organizers I found on Etsy (shocking) that I love.  The first one is a little snap-top wallet with dividers inside.  You can get it in different fabrics, but I happen to love this one.  What a stylish way to save money!  (With the coupons, I mean)  This is available at jimmypickles's shop on Etsy.

The next one is something I've never seen before, and is, I think, a brilliant idea.

Beautiful baby clothes

Isn't this beautiful?  I am in love--it's my two favorite things, pink and roses!  There are also shoes to go with it, below.  This is available from BumbleBeeDesigns on Etsy here.  I wish I had had something this gorgeous for Karina to wear home from the hospital.  Except she probably wouldn't have since she had a broken shoulder (a common birth injury for large-ish babies)(it healed very quickly, she was fine) and came home in a hospital side-snap shirt with her arm taped down!  But I might have put this on top just because it is so unbelievably gorgeous!  $28.

Karina's Bananas for Bananas

My daughter loves bananas.  I mean, she LOVES them.  Making the switch from bottle to food has been interesting to say the least, but one thing she will eat anytime, anywhere is bananas.  She learned that she can hold them in her hand to eat them (peeled, already of course) and she takes big bites out of them.  When she gets to the last bit that's gripped tightly in her little fist and she can no longer bite off it, I tell her I'll cut it up for her, and she puts it down on the tray.  I cut it into two or three smaller pieces, and poof!  She pops those into her mouth as fast as she can chew and swallow.  The girl is in love with bananas!  I think she'd marry them if she knew what marriage was. When she sits in her highchair, she can see the counter where I keep the bananas.  She'll get halfway, or not even halfway, through a meal, and start reaching for the counter.  "Unh, unh, unh" she says.  This means, "Give me banana, Mommy!!!" 

I was gone for the weekend with my youth group not long ago, and my husband kept her by himself.  He hadn't done this since she was about 9 months old, so the feeding situation was very different.  He actually let her eat an entire banana in one sitting.  Yes, the entire thing.  I couldn't believe it.  I normally cut the bananas into thirds and give her a third at a time.  She gets to have up to two of these a day, but never two at once
. 

As an aside, I have discovered a way to help keep the banana from getting icky after I cut it for her.  I take a piece of paper towel, small, and stick it to the exposed piece of banana (still in skin).  When I take the paper towel off for the next time she has banana, just a tiny film of banana is inedible, instead of it being a giant brown mess.  Hmm.  I'm not sure this description is adequate, so I'll try to remember to take a picture of the banana with the paper towel on it.  Ha, that sounds so funny! 

So that's it.  My kid loves bananas (so do I but I don't get to eat them much anymore...Karina just begs for mine) and paper towels will save them.  :-)

I WON A BIG PRIZE!

I just won a $250 gift certificate from BabyKicks in their Monster Giveaway!!!  I can't even believe it!  At first, I couldn't even remember entering, but then I was reading the ways to enter, and I remembered answering a question on Facebook.  That's how I won!  I am a little bit in shock.  I am stunned, really.  That's a lot of diaper products to win!  It's amazing, though.  The greatest part is that I will be able to get newborn sized prefolds for the next baby that will come along, because I am determined to do cloth from the start.  I think I'll be getting some some prefolds in a few sizes, some JoeyBunz inserts, some washies (washcloth/wipes things), probably some of the new pocket diapers they just came out with, and who knows what else!  AAAAAAAAAAAAA!  And I say again, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

I really rarely win stuff, and when I do, it's usually little stuff. Sometimes I win stuff that I never even receive (a la the tea-prize incident), but I have never, ever, EVER won anything this big!  Must go breathe now.

Now here is a super cute looking diaper.  GreenBottoms store on Etsy made this, and you can find it here.  GreenBottoms store has several diapers listed.  I just think it looks so cute!  And I love the pattern.  These are totally my kind of colors.  This is an All in Two diaper with fushcia organic bamboo fleece, hidden PUL, and zorb.  And it's only $17.  Hmmmm how badly does Karina need another diaper?  Not very.  :-(
How badly does her mommy want her to have another diaper?  VERY!!!!  I had to have it.  I bought it.  I will post after I get it to let you know how I like it.

A Couple of Etsy Finds

I actually can sew a little, but I don't.  I am not very skilled, first off, I'm not very patient, secondly, and I don't have any time, thirdly.  So I have come to this realization:  if I want it, I must buy it!  And I'm okay with that.  I also just love the idea of shopping on Etsy, now that I'm officially addicted, because regular people made this stuff!  Regular people and not a huge corporation.  I like that.  I like that I'm supporting people who are really a lot like me!  Except I don't sell anything.  I'm too lazy.  :-)

Now, here is something else I just found on Etsy, at http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=40185543#  by paperpartydesignco on Etsy.  Long ago, when my friends first started having babies, Target sold something similar.  Of course, when I went looking for them for MY baby, they didn't have them.  I ended up making some barely-good-enough ones out of cardboard, and I hated them.  I wish I had known about these!  There are several different designs in the shop, including designs for boys, and you can customize them.  They can be labeled any way you want; for example, they could say sweaters, shirts, etc.  They are also very well priced, at $13.50 a set.  I love them!  I hope that when I get around to having baby #2, they are still available.  I will definitely want them!

Grammar Girl is at it again

I was an English major in college (I couldn't major in Education, so it was like a double major...only it wasn't....too hard to explain).  My mom is also an English major.  She is a real Grammar Queen.  So I get annoyed when I see grammatical errors, and they are everywhere.  You will note that every once in a while I have these little grammar rants. 

The last one was about improper use of apostrophes.  This one is about the word "loose" as opposed to "lose".

I see "loose" used where "lose" should be.  "Loose" is an adjective, it means "not tight".  "Lose" is the verb most people mean to use, for which "lost" is the past tense.  "Loose" has a soft "s" sound at the end, like a snake going "sssssssssssssssss".  "Lose" has a hard "z" sound at the end, like when you're sleeping, "zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz".  So, please don't lose patience with me, heh heh, because I am compelled to write about this stuff.
